--------------------------------------------------- In Memoriam: Sr. Clare Kelly, RSHM Sr. Clare Kelly lived as a Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary for 60 years from 1949 to September 9, 2009. She received a BS from Marymount College and an MS from Fordham University. She entered the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary on September 8, 1947, made her first vows in April, 1949 and her final vows in August, 1954. Sr. Clare began her years of ministry as a teacher, serving at Sacred Heart of Mary and Mother Butler Memorial in Bronx, NY, Sacred Heart of Mary in Rolling Meadows, IL, and Marymount School in Arlington, VA. She was an assistant principal of Marymount School in Tarrytown, NY. Sr. Clare also taught at LaSalle Academy, St. Barnabas and St. Pius V in Bronx, NY. Between 1977 and 1996, Sr. Clare expanded her ministry as an educator. She expressed her great compassion and strong sense of justice as a social worker at Lincoln Hall in Lincolndale, NY, in the Prison Apostolate on Rikers Island, NY, through the adult literacy program at Holy Name Center for Homeless Men in NY, and teaching English as a Second Language for the Spanish American Institute in NY. In 1996, Sr. Clare joined the staff of Cormaria Retreat Center, where she served until her retirement in 2006.
